On this day in 1979, Willie Mays was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Mays, the legendary center fielder of the San Francisco Giants, is considered by many to be the greatest all-around ballplayer of his era. Willie’s advice for baseball applies equally well to the game of life. He said, “Play happy.” It worked for him, and it can work for us, too.
Just about every job has its share of headaches -- and even occasional heartaches -- but if we enjoy the work, we can accept the hassles and work happily most of the time. But when the headaches consistently take the joy out of the job, it's time to update the resume'.
If you're working happily four or five days a week, keep swinging. If not, there's surely a better way and a better job in your future. And whether you realize it or not, your most important job is to find that better job sooner rather than later. Life is too short to settle for less.
And now, with no further ado, batter up….
Find Work That Makes You Happy
“If you’re not happy every morning when you get up and leave for work, you’re not going to be successful.”
Donald M. Kendall
”If you don't like it, stop doing it. Never continue in a job you don't enjoy.”
“A job is something that you do for money. A career is something you do because you are inspired to do it.”
Edward James Olmos
“If I should die tomorrow, I will have no regrets. I did what I wanted to do. You can't expect more from life.”
“What is the recipe for successful achievement? Choose a career you love. Give it the best there is in you. Seize your opportunities. And be a member of the team.”
“Unless what you’re doing is the greatest single passion in your life, you ought to move on before being asked.”
Today’s Bible Verse
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing.
